Sago Secures Atlanta Expansion

Southern Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), today announced it has expanded its growing customer base in Florida and Georgia with the addition of Sago Networks, a service provider to high-data users such as ISPs and hospitals.

Sago Networks chose Southern Telecom to help expand its operations and reach in Atlanta, Tampa and Miami. The company has connected its Tampa and Miami data centers with its Atlanta data center via leased dark fiber from Southern Telecom. The added fiber provides Sago Networks highly reliable data center fiber connectivity allowing Sago further access to a number of enterprise buildings and healthcare facilities where it has customers to deliver increased services and further grow its presence in Florida and Georgia.

Sago Secures Atlanta Expansion

Sago Networks, an Internet services company, has secured a long-term lease from Atlanta Gas and Light for a fiber optic ring throughout of the metro area of Atlanta.

It will enable Sago to provide Internet access and transport services, along with other services to all major office buildings, shopping malls, hospitals and major developed residential properties, a release said.

No financial details of the lease were disclosed.

The Tampa company said it has already installed the fiber optic equipment on a majority of the network to create a 10Gbps redundant fiber ring. Sago is currently working to deploy the remainder of the fiber network throughout Florida as well. That is scheduled to be complete in 2007.

The Atlanta fiber ring will also incorporate the firm's 100,000-square-foot Atlanta data center, the release said.

Sago was founded in 1995 as an alternative to telephone and cable companies and other Internet companies. It operates data centers in Atlanta, Tampa and Miami and is diversified into many sectors, including commercial and multi-dwelling broadband access, transport services, co-location/data center services, back-up and disaster recovery, and dedicated servers.
